Brussels, 22/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 22 September, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn announced progress on the stabilisation and association agreement, and on visa liberalisation with Kosovo.
“There are a few issues open on the stabilisation and association agreement and also on the liberalisation of visas. I can't predict anything in terms of exact timing but I can say that there is a lot of progress in both cases and I expect positive lasting solutions very soon”, Hahn said at the end of a meeting with Kosovo's minister for European integration, Bekim Collaku. Hahn stated that there were virtually no more Kosovans seeking asylum in the EU, and that this apparently showed how serious the government of Kosovo was and that it had done its work. “It's fine for the issue of visa liberalisation”, Hahn continued. “There are issues open, but I believe they are things that can be resolved this year”, he added.
Hahn stated that more had to be done on fighting corruption.
He also hailed the agreements that Kosovo has made with Serbia, and he underlined that this would “certainly have a strong impact on Kosovo's European outlook”. “This should not be underestimated”, he said. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
