The first assessment of digital skills carried out in the framework of the PISA programme of the OECD, which was published on Tuesday 15 September, shows that schools will have to make the most of the possibilities opened up by new technologies in the classrooms in order to overcome the digital divide and give pupils the skills they will need to evolve in a connected world. The OECD report shows that even the countries which have made considerable investments in ICT in the education sector have not seen any notable improvement in the results of the PISA written comprehension, mathematics and science assessments, which shows that ICT needs to be brought into teaching more intelligently. Furthermore, the best results in digital skills following the assessments carried out in 31 countries and economies were achieved by pupils in Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada and Shanghai.
