14/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - Code Week to get people programming. The Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for the digital strategy, Andrus Ansip, met last week with the national ambassadors who will be tasked with promoting digital programming in their countries, during “Code Week” (10-18 October). Ansip strongly supports this initiative, commenting that basic programming knowledge will soon be one of the skills needed to find work in any sector of the economy. “These days, you need digital skills as a basic requirement to get ahead in the modern workplace. It is not just about reading and writing any more”, he stressed. Code Week is dedicated to coding and digital programming. It is an initiative launched in 2013 by Neelie Kroes, then Commissioner for Digital, to celebrate coding and encourage people in Europe to learn how to do it. (IL)
