21/08/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU calls for respect of peace agreement. The European Union is concerned about the ceasefire being broken for the first time since it was signed on 20 June, and has called for the agreement to be strictly respected. Responding to the violent clashes in the Kidal region in Northern Mali between some of the groups that signed the agreement, the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stated: “This resumption of hostilities jeopardises implementation of the peace agreement. The European Union calls on the different parties for an end to the violence and it reiterates its full support for MINUSMA, the role of which is crucial for implementation of the agreement”. United Nations Security Council Resolution 2227 confirmed that sanctions will be taken against all those who oppose peace in Mali, Mogherini's spokesperson says in a press release (our translation).
