29/07/2015 (Agence Europe) - United Kingdom wants to increase security of Channel Tunnel. The British Home Secretary, Theresa May, announced on 28 July, at a meeting with her French opposite number Bernard Cazeneuve, that an extra €10 million would be allocated to increasing the security of the Channel Tunnel access points. According to Le Figaro, 2,200 migrants tried to get into the tunnel and into the United Kingdom on the night of 27 to 28 July, clinging onto freight transporters, for instance. Some 15 of the migrants were injured. On the night of 28 to 29 July, 1,500 migrants tried to access the tunnel through the Eurotunnel site and a migrant of Sudanese origin was killed, AFP reports. The French home affairs minister on 29 July announced police reinforcements to secure the approaches to the tunnel. (SP)
