03/07/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU condemns attack on UN peacekeepers. On Thursday 2 July, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, condemned the “terrorist attack” carried out that day on a United Nations convoy (MINUSMA) in the north of Mali, which left six peacekeepers from Burkina Faso dead and five others seriously wounded. Mogherini stressed that this peacekeeping operation, which has just been renewed, has been one of the most costly in terms of human life and pledged the EU's continuing support to the efforts of the peacekeepers, “operating bravely in extremely difficult conditions on behalf of the international community”. She went on to reiterate that “sanctions will be taken against all those who oppose peace in Mali and break the ceasefire”. (JK)
