15/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - Mogherini pushes for government formation. On Friday 12 June, the European External Action Service (EEAS) stated that High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini had spoken on the phone to Turkey's current Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, leader of the CHP party Kemal Kilicdaroglu, and co-leader of the HDP party Selahattin Demirtas and had enquired about the next steps towards the formation of a government. Following the Turkish general elections on 7 June (see EUROPE 11330), no party had a sufficient majority to be able to govern without a coalition. “The high representative stressed with her interlocutors that the EU is ready to cooperate with the new government in order to further strengthen and broaden the EU-Turkey relationship and to work closer together on addressing common international challenges”, the EEAS added.
