Habib Essid's priority to enforce new constitution

Brussels, 29/05/2015 (Agence Europe) - During a hearing at the European Parliament's foreign affairs committee on Thursday 28 May, Tunisia's Prime Minister Habib Essid spoke of the political and economic difficulties encountered by the Tunisian transition.

“Development goes together with security”, Essid stated, underlining the breadth of the challenge his country is facing. On the issue of migration, he spoke of the need for prevention, a European Parliament press release states. The only way to attain this is to find sustainable solutions at the local level in order to integrate the people into their own country in a way that stops them leaving, he said. MEPs pointed out the risk of terrorists infiltrating through these uncontrolled flows of migrants.

Essid was also received by European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, and met European Parliament President Martin Schulz. (Fathi B'Chir)
