19/05/2015 (Agence Europe) - WFP welcomes €13 million in EU aid. On Friday 15 May, the World Food Programme welcomed the €13 million contribution ($13.8 million) that it had received from ECHO, the European Commission's humanitarian aid service, which will help it to provide assistance to the most vulnerable sections of the population in South Sudan. Joyce Luma, WFP Director for the country said “this is a sign that the world has not forgotten the millions of people who need help in South Sudan”. €10 million will go to emergency food assistance activities for displaced persons and those affected by the fighting (deliveries of sorghum, salt and nutritional complements to prevent child malnutrition), €2 million will be allocated to logistics and €1 million will help finance humanitarian aid air services frozen by WFP.
