Brussels, 18/05/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 18 May, the Education Council, meeting in Brussels, adopted conclusions on the role of early childhood education and primary education in fostering creativity, innovation and digital skills.
The text underlines the benefits of early years education for the later development of individuals' skills and creativity. It also looks at what should be done to develop young people's knowledge of the developing and increasingly important digital economy. The Council also highlights the key role of non-formal education in developing creativity and entrepreneurship, along with digital skills, in children. To this end, it is essential that teachers be properly trained and receive on-going training and that schools be encouraged to adopt appropriate curricula that allow children to develop non-formal skills, the Council says. In a globalised and digitised world, we need to have responsible citizens, commented Latvian Education Minister Marite Seile. (Isabelle Lamberty)
