Brussels, 13/05/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, 12 May in Brussels, the European Parliament's Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas Intergroup conference launch took place.
The theme of the conference was entitled Seizing the opportunity to develop a stronger Europe of the sea organised with the support of CPMR (secretariat of the Intergroup).
Gesine Meissner, chair of the Intergroup, introduced the debates, which were attended by Commissioner Karmenu Vella, MEPs Cláudia Mondeiro De Aguiar, Isabelle Thomas, Ricardo Serrão Santos, Tonino Picula, Sofia Ribeiro and MEP members of the Intergroup.
This conference sought to publicly launch the Intergroup Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas, which began its work in January. It was divided into 3 thematic sessions: Towards a sustainable Blue Growth; EU Funds in support of maritime activities and Tackling the challenges of the Islands.
“I have an ambitious programme in support of sustainable blue growth and I am asking for your support to deliver that. I see the intergroup as the place where we can discuss new ideas, freely and early on”, explained Vella, commissioner for fisheries and maritime affairs. (Lionel Changeur)
