13/05/2015 (Agence Europe) - Tribute paid to Baron Lámfalussy. On Monday 11 May, the Presidents of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, and of the Eurogroup, Jeroen Dijsselbloem, paid tribute to the memory of the Belgian economist Alexandre Lámfalussy, who has died at the age of 86. A member of the 'Delors committee', which was tasked with preparing the way for the single currency, and the first president of the European Monetary Institute, the predecessor to the ECB, he is considered to be one of the 'Fathers of the euro'. He went on to initiate a revision of the financial regulation architecture of Europe, which led to the creation of the three European financial supervision authorities. (MB)
