Brussels, 04/05/2015 (Agence Europe) - The European Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs was to visit Egypt on Monday 4 May, to meet President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Foreign Minister Sameh Hassan Shoukry, Home Affairs Minister Magdy Abdel Ghafar, and the Minister for Migration, Nahed El-Ashry, to discuss the answer to the migration crisis in the Mediterranean and explore avenues for cooperation between the two sides.
The Greek Commissioner, who had to cancel this trip, initially scheduled for 7 April, will then travel to Jordan on 5 May, his services announced. There, he will meet the Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour, the Foreign Minister, Nasser Judeh, and the Home Affairs Minister, Hussein Al-Majali.
At the end of last year, the European Union started talks with the African countries and, in particular, Libya's neighbours, to find responses to migrants leaving for the EU and to tackle smugglers' networks. The areas for their joint work will include the creation of hosting centres for migrants in these third countries and the deployment of teams to monitor boats leaving from these third countries.
