Brussels, 27/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - Morocco last week suspended imports of oilseeds, citrus fruits and other species from Italy which could be contaminated by the xylella fastidiosa epidemic mainly affecting olive groves in the south of Italy (Apulia).
The subject is also of concern to European circles. The European Parliament is expected to discuss the subject in plenary in Strasbourg on Thursday. The written question, lodged by different groups, states that “the phytosanitary emergency affecting olive groves in Southern Europe, especially in the Apulia region of Southern Italy, potentially threatening other crops and regions, has assumed unprecedented and serious proportions”. The disease has been imported through ornamental plants. (Fathi B'Chir)
