Plenary to focus on security and migration

Brussels, 24/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament plenary in Strasbourg on Monday 27 to Thursday 30 April will focus on security and migration.

The president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, will brief the EP on the outcome of the special summit of Thursday 23 April that decided to triple the monthly budget of the Triton operation piloted by the EU's Frontex agency and Italy (see EUROPE 11301).

On Tuesday, EU Internal Affairs Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos will unveil the European Commission's European security agenda (see EUROPE 11299). Two parliamentary questions have been tabled on the smart borders package (see EUROPE 11261).

Ecology will be another key feature in the EP's work, with a vote on legislation on biofuels (see EUROPE 11289) and legislation to reduce the use of plastic bags (see EUROPE 11286). On Wednesday 29 April, MEPs will vote on amendments to the European Social Fund to help member states introduce the Youth Guarantee more speedily (see EUROPE 11281). A billion euros is expected to be released. The anti-alcohol abuse strategy will be voted on on Monday (see EUROPE 11300).

Martin Schulz, president of the European Parliament, will meet Yezidi women victims of terrorist atrocities on Wednesday 29 April. During the plenary, he will meet the Romanian prime minister, Victor Ponta, and the president of the French Senate, Gérard Larcher. (Jean Comte)
