Brussels, 23/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Saturday 21 March, during International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, said that, “it is indispensable to take robust action to prevent and combat all forms and displays of racism and xenophobia, so that we can build safe and open societies that are open to all and all beliefs, based on the values of diversity, tolerance and mutual respect”.
In a statement on behalf of the EU, she added that they needed to take not only effective legal measures but also preventive measures promoting social inclusion and equality for all members of society. Mogherini pointed out that, “This year, we are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the International Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination. This convention forms the basis of the global fight against racial discrimination. In this connection it still points out that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and that it is erroneous and morally indefensible to suppose the contrary. This is the reason for which this convention should be ratified and implemented in all countries”. (Solenn Paulic)
