16/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - Union condemns attack on churches. On 15 March, EU High Representative, Federica Mogherini, called for the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks against two churches (one Catholic and the other Protestant) in Lahore, Pakistan, to “be brought to justice”. These attacks killed at least 14 and left scores of people injured. The High Representative described these attacks as, “another instance of violence aimed at innocent victims… It is essential that Pakistani authorities take swift action against all groups preaching hate and sowing division within society. Freedom of religion or belief is a central tenet of democratic societies”. Mogherini pointed out that the EU stands with Pakistan in its fight against terrorism and with religious minorities “whose rights have to be guaranteed all over the world”. (CG)
