Brussels, 16/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 16 March, the EU's 2015-2020 action plan to support the efforts of the countries and regional organisations of the Gulf of Guinea in their fight against piracy, illegal fishing and organised crime was adopted without debate on the sidelines of the EU Foreign Affairs Council. The action plan aims to ensure maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.
In its conclusions, the Council calls on High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and the European Commission to start implementing this plan - in close consultation with the EU member states, the countries in the Gulf of Guinea region and international partners. The European External Action Service (EEAS) is soon to appoint an EU coordinator for the region. (Aminata Niang)
