Brussels, 10/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - At the Ecofin Council in Brussels on Tuesday 10 March, France said that the EU needed to be precise and effective in fighting tax optimisation.
In a short discussion it requested itself, France, speaking through its minister, Michel Sapin, argued that the EU should act quickly in 2015. Italy and Spain are reported to have taken the floor in support of the French minister. Ireland stressed the need for proper coordination with the OECD, which has developed an action plan to fight tax optimisation, the BEPS (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting). Dublin went on to stress that the EU should do more to make its voice heard within the OECD. The Latvian Presidency said that the point would be on the agenda of the informal Council of Finance and Economy Ministers of the EU, to be held in Riga in April. (Elodie Lamer)
