Brussels, 10/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - Concerned at the continuing violence in Northern Mali, the European Union called on all parties on Monday 9 February for constructive dialogue as part of the inter-Malian Algiers talks in order “to resolve the substantive disagreement” through compromise.
The unanimous conclusions adopted by the Council of the EU state that the violence is “a threat for the security, stability, territorial integrity and development of Mali and the wider Sahel region”.
The Council urges all the parties to take “the unique opportunity” that the Algiers peace process offers for dialogue and reconciliation, and to show the required political resolve and flexibility “to reach an inclusive and durable political solution as swiftly as possible”.
The EU says that it is ready to facilitate the implementation of the future political agreement through actively participating in the proposed monitoring follow-up committee. (Aminata Niang)
