The Council has extended by two years, until 14 December 2016, the mandate of the unarmed civil monitoring mission of the European Union in Georgia (EUMM Georgia), the Council announced on Tuesday 16 December. A budget of e18.3 million has been made available to the mission for the first year of its renewed mandate. “Since October 2008, [EUMM Georgia] has been supporting the stabilisation and normalisation of the situation on the ground, centred on full compliance with the six-point agreement signed by Georgia and Russia in August 2008”, the Council states in a press release. Toivo Klaar, Head of Mission since 2013, will soon be replaced, the Council went on to announce. (CG)
