20/11/2014 (Agence Europe) - EU hails agreement for humanitarian truce. During the evening of Wednesday 19 November, the European Union hailed the agreement of a 12-hour unconditional humanitarian truce in Benghazi (Libya). “The agreement (…) is critical to alleviate the suffering of the people in Benghazi”, said Catherine Ray, spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. The EU commended the efforts of the United Nations in facilitating this agreement. “We remain committed to assisting the Libyan people in their efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in their country”, Ray added. According to the United Nations mission in Libya, the different parties attacking each other in Benghazi agreed a 12-hour humanitarian truce on 19 November. Among other things, the truce should enable the wounded to be evacuated. (CG)
