Western countries united but agreement still distant

Brussels, 20/11/2014 (Agence Europe) - The countries of the E3+3 (Germany, France, United Kingdom and China, United States, Russia) are “all united” in the search for an agreement with Iran on its nuclear programme, according to US Secretary of State John Kerry.

“Yes, we do want an agreement but not any agreement”, he said on Thursday 20 November, adding that they were going “to work very hard to reach an agreement” before the deadline of 24 November. France's Foreign Affairs Minister Laurent Fabius said that “there are still points of difference [between the Western countries and Iran]”. “We would like an agreement with Iran (…) and this agreement, basically, is yes to civilian nuclear energy but no to the atomic bomb”, he said. Kerry is due to go to Vienna, where the negotiations are being held, on the evening of 20 November.

Elsewhere, according to a report published by the International Committee in Search of Justice (ISJ) on 20 November, the Iranian regime has been hiding its military nuclear programme behind a civilian programme for the last two decades and has secretly progressed on this military programme. The report states that a proper, detailed and precise response to this continuing issue is of the utmost importance and is an essential part of any comprehensive agreement. (CG)
