SECTORAL POLICIES / (ae) employment

14/11/2014 (Agence Europe) - Parliament approves EGF aid in Greece. On Thursday 13 November, the European Parliament gave the go-ahead (573 votes in favour, 75 against, with 15 abstentions) to make payments to Greece in aid worth €7.2 million as part of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF), as proposed by the European Commission (EUROPE 11174) and which has already been accepted by the Council of the EU. The aim is to facilitate the return to work of 761 former workers in the clothing chain, Sprider Stores, a majority of whom were made redundant in Attica and Central Macedonia. 505 young people who are not in employment, education or training, will also benefit from the new mechanism introduced as part of the EGF for 2014-2020.
