EU condemns terrorist acts in Iraq

Brussels, 31/10/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 30 October, the European Union expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the tribesmen who were killed in “recent ISIL atrocities” in Anbar province, as well as to the families of the victims of the recent terrorist attacks in Baghdad.

“We condemn terrorist acts of any kind and deplore the loss of lives and the distress caused by these savage atrocities against tribesmen defending their towns and innocent citizens”, said the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, adding that there can be no impunity for any such atrocities and that those responsible must be held accountable. “The international efforts to defeat ISIL and other terrorist groups are driven by the firm intention to put an end to such senseless killings”, Ashton's spokesperson said.

On Thursday 30 October, a source in charge of security stated that 255 tribesmen and local police officers have been killed by ISIL militants. Several dozen people have died in attacks over recent days. (CG)
