56% of Britons would like to stay in EU

Brussels, 23/10/2014 (Agence Europe) - Staying in the EU is apparently what 56% of Britons want, according to a recent poll quoted in British daily newspaper The Independent on Thursday 23 October. This result is the highest level of pro-EU citizens in the UK since 1991, several media have stated. In 2012, the rate was 44%, as determined by the IpsosMori institute. According to the recent poll, which focused on the way in which Britons would vote if a referendum on leaving the EU took place now, 36% of those polled would opt for an exit (in comparison with 48% in 2012), while 8% stated that they did not know what to answer. In total 1,002 adults were polled between 11-14 October. (SP)
