20/10/2014 (Agence Europe) - Romania receives reasoned opinion over rail safety. The Commission has sent a warning to Romania over transposition of European rail safety rules as Bucharest has failed to fully transpose Directive 2004/49/EC on the independence of the safety authority and the investigating body. The legislation should have been in place since April 2006 and infringement proceedings were opened by the Commission against Romania in February 2013. This time, the Commission sent a reasoned opinion on 16 October. Romania has two months to reply or the Commission may refer the matter to the European Court of Justice. (MD)
