Luxembourg, 20/10/2014 (Agence Europe) - Welcoming the “overall orderly conduct of the elections” that took place in Bosnia-Herzegovina on 12 October, the EU foreign affairs ministers called on the leaders of Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday 20 October “to act immediately to ensure this takes place”.
In their conclusions, the EU foreign affairs ministers underline “the crucial importance of swift government formation”. The Council also reiterates its call for the leadership of Bosnia-Herzegovina to engage “immediately” on a broad set of issues in order to address the challenges that the country faces as it progresses towards the European Union.
The Council welcomes the continued presence of Operation Althea, and states the EU's resolve to continue “at this stage” an executive military role to support Bosnia-Herzegovina's authorities to maintain the safe and secure environment, under a renewed United Nations mandate. “The EU at the same time encourages the authorities of Bosnia-Herzegovina, with the support of the international community, to accelerate their efforts to address the disposal of excess ammunition and other outstanding issues”, the EU foreign affairs ministers add.
