23/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - EU condemns the murders of nine people. On Monday 22 September, the European Union “strongly” condemned the killing of nine activists, journalists and members of the security forces in Benghazi, Libya, on 19 September. Among those killed were young human rights activist and blogger Tawfik Bensaud and young activist Sami El-Kawafi. “Those responsible for these targeted assassinations should be held responsible”, stressed the European External Action Service (EEAS) on its Twitter account. “EU calls on Libyan parties to constructively participate in UNSMIL [United Nations Support Mission in Libya] sponsored dialogue on 29/09 to discuss ways to end crisis in Libya,” the EEAS says, adding that the EU welcomes UN Security Council resolution 2174 which stresses the importance of holding accountable those responsible for threatening the peace and stability of the country.
