Brussels, 18/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 17 September, the European Commission announced the appointment, with immediate effect, of two new deputy directors-general at DG Trade.
Mauro Petriccione (Italy) becomes the deputy director-general responsible for services and investment, intellectual property, public procurement, relations with Asia and Latin America, sustainable development, economic partnership agreements, agrifood and fisheries. Petriccione has spent his career in DG Trade since joining the Commission in 1987. He has previously been the Commission's representative at GATT, the WTO, and the OECD, and served as EU negotiator for the membership of Russia and Vietnam to the WTO, as well for the CETA with Canada.
Matthew Baldwin (UK) becomes the deputy director-general responsible for the neighbouring countries, relations with the USA and Canada, the WTO, legal affairs, trade in goods, trade strategy, market access, and trade defence. Baldwin was previously the director for aviation and international transport policy in DG Mobility and Transport. Before that, he worked in DG Trade as head of unit on market access, as head of unit for WTO issues, then as the director responsible for market access and industry matters, and as deputy head of cabinet for the former trade commissioner Pascal Lamy. Before joining the Commission in 1999, Baldwin worked for the British government in various posts in London, Brussels and Washington, and dealt in particular with issues linked to US trade policy.
