Brussels, 17/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - The EU is to mobilise a further €5 million for vulnerable people in Mali, the European Commission announced on Wednesday 17 September. This newly taken financing decision is aimed at helping people exposed to extreme food insecurity and to fresh violence in the north of the country.
The new funding will enable food aid to be provided to over a million people, access to water and sanitation facilities to be guaranteed to recently displaced people, and humanitarian assistance to be continued to 140,000 Malian refugees in the host countries (Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Niger). Part of the funding is also intended for continuing the channelling of aid by air so as to bypass the frequent targeted attacks and explosive devices with which the roads are infested.
With this funding, the humanitarian aid mobilised by the Commission for Mali this year totals €40 million. (AN)
