Brussels, 16/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - A meeting of the 5+5 groups (Western Mediterranean) on Libya, extended to neighbouring countries, will take place in Madrid on Wednesday 17 September. Libya is formally a member of the 5+5 group.
As well as Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania, Chad, Sudan, Greece and Cyprus are also expected to attend. In addition, the Arab League, the Union for the Mediterranean, the EU and the UN have been invited to the meeting - the objective of which is to assess the impact of the Libyan conflict on the region both in terms of security and migration, and economic recovery.
The first meeting of the neighbouring countries took place in Libya itself in March 2012, and was followed by a second conference in Rabat (Morocco) in November 2013. International conferences on the same subject took place in Paris both in February 2013 and in March 2014, and in Algiers last May. (FB)
