The French president, François Hollande, discussed the situation in the eurozone with the head of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, in Paris on Monday 1 September, three days ahead of the meeting of the ECB Governing Council in Frankfurt. The two leaders say that confidence needs to be shored up against the risk of over-low inflation, and that the flexibility available under the Stability and Growth Pact needs to be utilised, explain French sources in Le Monde newspaper. The ECB stresses the importance of properly carrying out structural reforms to support the economy. (MB)
