Consultative groups - agricultural organisations cool

Brussels, 25/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - The composition of the new “civil dialogue” groups to be consulted by the agriculture and rural development services of the European Commission is far from satisfactory to the representatives of the agricultural organisations and cooperatives of the EU. On 18 July, COPA-COGECA expressed its “dissatisfaction” at the decisions made by DG AGRI for some of the civil dialogue groups, particularly those on the market, as regards the allocation of seats and the “practical details for the organisation and functioning of the meetings” (our translation). Additionally, the agricultural organisations and cooperatives take the view that the number of seats allocated to the environment and climate change group makes little sense, given the importance of these issues for the CAP and agricultural activities. The Directorate General on Agriculture and Rural Development of the Commission announced the composition of the 13 new civil dialogue groups to take over from the consultative groups and which will provide it with opinions and recommendations for the next seven years. COPA (professional agricultural organisations) gwill have 104 seats in the 13 civil dialogue groups out of a total of 773, and COGECA (agricultural co-operatives) 96. (LC)
