EU gives €60 million for family agriculture

Brussels, 23/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - Morocco and the EU have signed a finance agreement in the form of a donation for €60 million (around 670 million dirhams) relating to phase II of the support programme for agricultural sector policy, states Morocco's Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The agreement was signed in Rabat on 18 July by Morocco's Minister for the Economy and Finance Mohammed Boussaid, Minister for Agriculture and Maritime Fishing Aziz Akhannouch, and the EU ambassador to Morocoo, Rupert Joy. Boussaid “highlighted the overall objective”, which is “the improvement of small farms' agricultural revenue and the development of solidarity agriculture” in the four regions of Morocco.

Joy underlined that this second phase of support for Morocco's agricultural policy was going “to enable the effort undertaken since 2010 for family agriculture to be continued”. In addition, he said that this programme highlighted that the environmental dimension and climate change were being taken into account in agricultural development. (FB)
