Brussels, 05/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - Member states may allow libraries to digitise, without the agreement of the rightholders, books they hold in their collection so as to make them available at electronic reading points. Although the European directive on copyright (2001/29/EC) bans users from copying files digitally (e.g. onto USB sticks), it does not prevent the book from being printed as a private copy.
