Christian Democrat group will be made up of 222 MEPs

Brussels, 03/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - The Christian Democrat group in the European Parliament (EPP), which meets for its constitutive session this Wednesday, will be made up of 222 MEPs.

Having won the European elections for the fourth time in a row, it will again be the largest political group of the 2014-2019 legislative period of the European Parliament.

The 222 MEPs must now elect their president. Germany's Manfred Weber is the only candidate to take over from Joseph Daul of France, who did not stand for re-election. Born in 1972 in Wildenberg (Germany), he is a member of Bavaria's CSU and has served as vice-president of the EPP Group since 2004.

The 10 deputy presidents who will compose the presidency of the group will also be elected. For the first time, the rule to promote women candidates will apply. Eight men and eight women have submitted their candidacies. (MB)
