On Wednesday 28 May, Marine Le Pen MEP, from the French Front National, criticised the EU's policy towards Russia in the Ukrainian crisis. She described the EU's behaviour as “stupid”. “I think that the EU is stupid to have entered into a cold war with Russia. Nothing justifies it”, she said during a conference at the European Parliament. “The consequence of the stupidity of the EU's hostile behaviour is to throw Russia into the arms of China”, she said, recalling the contracts that have recently been signed between the two countries. “It's a major geopolitical and geostrategic mistake”, she added. In Le Pen's view, “we need balanced relations with the big countries, and Russia is undeniably a big country with which France has every interest in developing its trade and strategic relations”. (CG)
