Three MEDIA-funded films win prizes at Cannes

Brussels, 27/05/2014 (Agence Europe) -Three films supported by the MEDIA programme through the Creative Europe initiative were awarded prizes at the most recent Cannes Film Festival that closed on 25 May. The jury chaired by the New Zealand director and producer Jane Campion awarded the Grand Prix to Italian director, Alice Rohrwacher, for her film, “Le Meraviglie”. The Grand prix jury also awarded a prize to the film, “Adieu au langage” by French director, Jean-Luc Godard. The actor, Timothy Spall, received the prize for best male actor in the film “Mr Turner” by British director, Mike Leigh. In the “Un certain regard” category, another MEDIA supported film received a prize, “Turist” by the Swedish director, Ruben Ostlund. Commissioner for Culture and Audiovisual Matters Androulla Vassiliou said: “I am proud that once again the MEDIA programme has been involved in some of the best films rewarded at Cannes. Over the years, MEDIA has had a successful record at the festival and hopefully this will continue”. (IL)
