Athens, 08/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - Will transport related issues be part of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations? According to European Commissioner for Transport Siim Kallas, nothing has as yet been decided. At a press conference following the informal Maritime Transport Council in Athens on Wednesday 7 May, he declared that “we are currently discussing whether transport as chapter will be part of this negotiation or not”. He pointed out that air transport relations between the EU and US were already covered by the “Open Sky” agreement. This sector should not therefore be the subject of new negotiations. Maritime issues could, however, be involved if negotiations are begun on the question of transport in the context of the TTIP. (MD)
