Dublin Waste-to-Energy project given go-ahead

Brussels, 08/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 7 May, the European Commission gave the go-ahead to Dublin local authorities' participation in a Waste-to-Energy project in Poolbeg, Dublin. The project is being carried out by Dublin Waste to Energy Limited (DWTEL) in conditions that a private investor would accept and is seen by the Dublin authorities as a business opportunity with a fair return on investment. The Commission therefore believes that it does not constitute state aid under EU rules. The Dublin authorities will participate in the project through a series of measures, such as a waste revenue guarantee, a waste and electricity revenue sharing mechanism and a profit-sharing scheme.
