06/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - Channel Tunnel turns 20. On Tuesday 6 May, the Channel Tunnel celebrated its 20th birthday. On 6 May 1994, the first journey under the English Channel to connect France, via Calais, to England, at Folkestone, was made possible by a feat of human engineerng. European Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas marked this anniversary by tweeting that this was one of Europe's most important cross-border transport connections. (MD)
