02/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - Four products registered for EU denominations. On 29 April, the European Commission announced that it had approved the requests for three new products on the register of protected designations of origin (PDOs) and protected geographical indications (PGIs). These are, from Slovenia, a smoked and dried ham Prekmurska sunka (PGI) and sea salt Piranska sol (PDO), and from France, a hazelnut Noisette de Cervione (PGI). In addition, the first Norwegian product was registered - dried cod from the Lofoten and Vesteralen islands Torrfisk fra Lofoten (this is the 17th non-EU product to be registered). These names will be added to the list of over 1,200 products already protected under the PDO, PGI and TSG (traditional speciality guaranteed) legislation. (LC)
