22/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - EU welcomes creation of new government. Following the formation of the new government of Madagascar led by Dr Kolo Roger, the EU on Thursday 18 April welcomed Madagascar's return to constitutional order. In a joint declaration in French, Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs, and Andris Piebalgs, the European Development Commissioner, welcomed “the setting in place of new institutions in Madagascar further to credible presidential and general elections” (our translation). This stage, which they described as important, “paves the way for the complete normalisation of the EU's relations with Madagascar and the full resumption of development cooperation”, the High Representative and the Commissioner added.
