Brussels, 22/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 16 April, COPA-COGECA welcomed the fact that the Council and the European Parliament have given the green light to the first package of delegated acts implementing the new common agriculture policy (see EUROPE 11060).
Albert Jan Maat, the President of COPA, said: “we welcomed the Commission's declaration on the delegated acts for the new CAP. It should enable farmers to implement the greening measures under reform without jeopardising EU production. This is crucial when food demand is increasing, stocks are low and markets are volatile”.
Christian Pèes, the President of Cogeca, added: “it will now be up to member states to introduce the detailed rules at national level. We will follow closely to ensure that red tape is minimised, that farmers have a level playing field and that there is a viable EU agricultural sector in the years to come”.
The European Council of Young Farmers (CEJA) has also welcomed the fact that the complement of the first pillar for young farmers can finally be set in place.
Over the course of the third quarter of 2014, the European Commission will adapt the delegated act on direct payments, raising the weighting factor for the area planted with protein crops recognised as areas of ecological interest. It will also adapt other texts of this kind, such as the ones on wine, after the holidays of the Assembly, which is to be renewed at the end of May. (LC)
