Brussels, 07/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - Culture and creative industries are at the heart of the digital revolution in Europe but, in order for them to take full advantage of it, the European Union and its member states must do more to ensure the necessary conditions and incentives for the expansion of creativity. This was the main message from EU Culture Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou on 4 April at the Forum de Chaillot conference in Paris on the future of culture in Europe. Digitisation has changed the way cultural works are produced and work must now focus on how Europe can remain a world leader for high-quality content and protecting the competitive advantage of its culture and creative industries, said the commissioner. She called for artists and creators, who are at the heart of this strategy, to be supported by greater public and private investment in order to promote entrepreneurship and reach an audience beyond national boundaries. In a press release, the Société des Auteurs Compositeurs Dramatiques (SACD) welcomed the high turnout at the Forum de Chaillot, which it said had defined a pro-active strategy for building a new European of culture. SACD welcomed the support from politicians attending the conference for cultural diversity and better regulation of the digital world in order to make it beneficial for European culture. (IL)
