Brussels, 07/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - The World Urban Forum will be held Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 April in Medellin, Colombia. The European Union will be represented at the forum by European Commissioner for Regional Development Johannes Hahn, who will be taking part on both days of the event.
The forum is organised by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitats) and seeks to develop a global approach to urban development, particularly on addressing common challenges such as climate change, energy efficiency and job creation. The European Commissioner intends to highlight the principle of multilevel governance as introduced by the partnership principle in European regional policy. The Commission is currently working on an “Urban Agenda” communication that is expected to be presented by the end of the year. Commissioner Hahn will use his visit to Latin America and this meeting to meet national and local political representatives from the continent. (MD)
