Brussels, 13/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - According to an announcement by the European Commission on 7 March, seven European regions have taken part in the BeyondSilos project, an initiative that is co-funded by the European Union and which helps combine social assistance and health care to senior citizens by way of new technology. The BeyondSilos project has a total budget of €5.47 million, half of which is financed by the European Commission. Almost 10,000 people living in Northern Ireland, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Germany will be able to benefit from these improved services as from 2015. These services will use new technology and be subject to both follow-up and an assessment over a two-year period. By supporting the BeyondSilos project, the European Commission is continuing its involvement in the integrated healthcare domain, which it began to do in 2007 and will continue to do with another project, CareWell. Thanks to European Union financed pilot projects, 30 European regions are now benefitting from integrated services in the e-health area. (IL)
