03/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - Attack in Kunming. On Sunday 2 March, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton condemned the attack the day before in the Chinese city of Kunming and sent her condolences to the families of the victims. Ashton is “appalled by the reports she has received of the significant loss of life and the many casualties caused by a mass knife attack at Kunming train station in China”, a statement reads. “There is never any justification for such heinous crimes”, Lady Ashton stresses. Twenty-nine civilians were killed and more than 140 others injured in the attack, which was launched on Saturday by a group of activists armed with knives at the railway station of Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province. The Chinese government believes that the perpetrators of the attacks were Uighur separatists from the province of Xinjiang (Northwest). (CG).
