03/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - Mergers: World Fuel Services/Watson Petroleum. On 3 March, the European Commission gave the go-ahead to the acquisition of Watson Petroleum Limited of the UK, by World Fuel Services Corporation of the United States of America. Watson is active in the distribution of petroleum products, specifically heating oil, gas oil, transport fuels and automotive/industrial lubricants, to domestic, commercial, industrial and agricultural customers. World Fuel Services Corporation is active in the provision of fuel products and related services for aviation, marine and ground transportation activities. The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition, notified on 31 January, would not raise competition concerns, given a limited overlap in the parties' activities in, as well as the fragmented nature of, the markets concerned. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure. (FG)
